Sunderland have joined Aberdeen in the race to sign Lewis Morgan on loan from Celtic.

Almost as soon as the former St Mirren winger joined Celtic in the summer he was linked with a re-union with his former boss Jack Ross with Sky Sports revealing fresh talks.

Aberdeen have held talks with Morgan but it was clear that the 22-year-old had other options to consider. Brendan Rodgers is keen for Morgan and Jack Hendry to get some game time with that factor critical in deciding where they go out on loan to.

Morgan has made a dozen substitute appearances for Celtic this season but his only start was away to RB Leipzig in the Europa League.

Aberdeen can offer him the ‘Christie template’ while Sunderland can offer him the chance to work alongside the manager who effectively rescued his career after a spell working under Alex Rae at St Mirren.

A number of Celtic players are expected to go out on loan this week.
