Celtic’s defender deal is rejected

Celtic have renewed their interest in Timothy Castagne.

The Atalanta defender was linked with a move to Celtic as the transfer window opened at the start of the month with prices quoted ranging from £6-10m.

Through his agent it emerged that Castagne was hoping for a move to Germany or England forcing Celtic to look elsewhere to find a solution to their problems at right-back.

Attention then turned to Omar Elabdellaou of Olympiakos but with Southampton closing in on a deal for the Norwegian international defender Celtic have revived their interest in Castagne.

Calciomercato reports:

Among the profiles surveyed by the champions of Scotland there is also Timothy Castagne , Belgian outsider of the 1995 class who after a hiccup start has always been fielded by Gasperini in the last four days of the championship. According to the information collected by Calciomercato.it , Atalanta rejected the offer from the Glasgow club, judged too low and considering not having enough time to find a replacement at the height.

The alleged interest comes as reports from Germany suggest that a deal is close to bring Jeremy Toljan to Celtic on loan.

After failing to sign a right-back during the summer transfer window it seems that the hoops are pulling out all of the stops to ensure that there is no repeat.
