After some gentle persuasion, and two first team appearances, Ewan Henderson is set to sign a three and a half year contract with Celtic, according to Football Fancast.

The 18-year-old made a brief first team appearance at home to Kilmarnock last season but had resisted the offer of a new contract due to concerns about his pathway into the first team. His commitment to Celtic has never been in doubt but with a Reserve League consisting of just 17 matches development options are limited.

Ewan’s main concern was over how his brother Liam’s career had stalled with first team options limited despite impressing on loan with Rosenborg and Hibs.

Brendan Rodgers has personally made it his mission to get Henderson onto a new contract, promoting him to train permanently with the first team before Christmas then including him in the squad that flew to Dubai for warm weather training.

Henderson appeared as a substitute in the matches against Airdrie United and St Mirren and sent through the pass for Timo Weah’s goal against the Lanarkshire side.

With his new deal he’ll be looking to remain in the matchday squad then assess his options in the summer regarding a potential loan or pushing to breakthrough at Celtic.
