Andrew Gutman has gone AWOL from Celtic, according to Football Fancast.

The young American hasn’t been seen since he played as a trialist as a Celtic XI lost 4-3 to Arbroath on January 19.

Celtic had applied for a work permit for Gutman but aren’t expected to continue their interest after the left-back failed to report to Lennoxtown last week.

The 22-year-old caught the eye playing for Indiana University and seemed set to sign for Chicago Fire. Before Christmas he spent time on trial at Murray Park but in the new year it emerged that he was returning to Scotland to join Celtic.

After a couple of days training he played the second half of a closed doors match against St Mirren before the trip to Arbroath to face the League One leaders on a brutal Scottish January afternoon.

The formalities of the transfer were expected to be completed last week but it’s now believed that he has returned to the USA to consider options.

Daniel Church played at left-back in today’s 4-1 Reserve League win over Partick Thistle with Calvin Miller, who was on loan at Dundee also available for the Reserve side.
