Jack Hendry is set to lead a January exodus with Sunderland and Portsmouth both interested in the defender.

The 23-year-old was signed from Dundee in January 2018 but has failed to convince Brendan Rodgers in his 17 starting appearances.

Half a dozen players on first team wages are surplus to requirements with Rodgers looking to perform drastic surgery on his squad during the January transfer window.

The well connected Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail reports:

With Celtic’s head of player recruitment Lee Congerton a reported target for Anderlecht after two troubled transfer windows, however, Hendry is expected to lead an exodus of fringe players leaving on loan this month.

Sunderland, Portsmouth and Bradford are among the interested clubs.

Compper is also expected to cut short a disastrous spell in Glasgow, despite doubts over the Parkhead futures of first-choice central defensive pairing Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic.

Out of contract in the summer, Boyata has declined to sign a new deal and is a January target for Fulham.

Central defence is a key issue for Rodgers with neither of his first choice pairing, Benkovic and Boyata, likely to be around for European qualifiers at the start of next season.

Kris Ajer is the only other central defender with reasonable experience in a position that has troubled Rodgers since he took over from Ronny Deila.

Kolo Toure provided a short term solution but after four transfer windows only Benkovic has made a positive impression in that role with the Croatian out of Celtic’s price range and returning to Leicester at the end of the season.
