Ibrox trialist Andrew Gutman is on the verge of signing for Celtic.

The Indiana Hoosiers defender spent time training at the luxurious Murray Park complex before Christmas where he impressed Steven Gerrard and was made an offer.

Celtic have recently increased their scouting of the game in the USA with Gutman expected to sign a deal to join the hoops Reserve side.

The 22-year-old recently started following Celtic on twitter with Brendan Rodgers confirming his interest in the left-back who was recently voted National Player of the Year.

Asked about a deal for Gutman Rodgers told The Sun: “Some of the boys are young guys or project signings for the club that can’t come in straight away but there’s nothing really to add on that.”

Gutman’s arrival will provide cover at left-back for Kieran Tierney who hasn’t played since the Europa League clash at home to RB Salzburg.

Emilio Izaguirre and Jonny Hayes have deputised for KT but the Honduran is apparently interesting two clubs in Turkey. At the end of December Celtic recalled Calvin Miller from his loan spell at Dundee where he was the regular left-back.
