Western Melbourne have renewed their interest in Scott Brown.

The Celtic skipper was reported to have turned down the offer of a two year contract but the newly elected A-League side are confident of landing the midfielder with a new improved offer.

Brown is out of contract at the end of this season with discussions on-going about extending his stay with Celtic which would include a back-room role when he retires from playing.

The midfielder will be 34 in June but after sweeping up last season’s Player of the Year Awards it seems that he still has a season or two left at the highest level even if he is no longer a first pick.

Maurice Bisetto, one of the main backers of Western Melbourne told the Sydney Morning Herald: ”We are pretty close with some players including a marquee. We are looking at a pre-season start in June, so things need to get moving. We are looking at the best of the young local coaches, but we are also talking to overseas coaches from continental Europe .”

He added: “We think Scott Brown has a lot of positives and could make a significant contribution to a new club…as a leader (on and off field).

There’s no doubt we could go for a bigger name, and that might get eyeballs and put bums on seats (initially) but we are really focused on results and performance and the style of football we want to play.”

Brown is also believed to be interesting a couple of clubs in the USA.
