Brendan Rodgers is in the dark about Kieran Tierney’s return to first team action.

The defender hasn’t played since Celtic’s Europa League tie against RB Salzburg on December 13 after being diagnosed as having a hip problem.

It seemed to be clearing up at Christmas time with Tierney pictured in training then named as a substitute at Ibrox but three weeks later there is no word on when he will be back in action.

Callum McGregor played at left-back in the Glasgow derby but that is unlikely to be repeated with his ability best served in midfield.

Jonny Hayes and Emilio Izaguirre are available to play in Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie against Airdrie United/Clydebank with the recalled Calvin Miller also an option.

Hip injuries are often difficult to deal with, the only options seem to be complete rest or an operation with surgery likely to rule the defender out of action for six months.
