Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Celtic’s interest in Maryan Shved but admitted that the Karpaty Lviv winger will immediately be sent out on loan.

News of the deal has leaked out from Ukraine over the last ten days with a fee of £1.7m in the players contract.

Shved has been left out of Karpaty’s winter training camp to take part in transfer negotiations with Rodgers providing an update on the move after Celtic’s 4-0 win over St Mirren.

“The club have been in contact with Maryan’s representatives and he’s a talented young player for the future,” the Celtic boss told The Sun.

“They’ll look to get the deal done and he’ll probably be out on loan and in during the summer. It’s something that’s come to the club through circumstance. He’s been watched and looked at but I can’t say I know a great deal about him.

But what I have seen he’s a talent and something that will probably benefit the club in the future.

“We’ve got about a million wingers and don’t need another one but he’s a talent and in the summer we’ll probably lose wingers and he’ll look to come in.”

Oliver Burke and Timo Weah will definitely leave in the summer while Jonny Hayes and Lewis Morgan have struggled for game time this season. Daniel Arzani is on loan until the end of next season but is likely to be out until the autumn through injury.

Scott Sinclair is under contract until June 2020 with a big decision to be made over whether one of the club’s top earners is to be offered a new contract.

Shved has already spent two seasons abroad with Sevilla’s reserve side, this season he has scored seven times in 16 appearances as well as earning his first full cap for Ukraine.
