Brendan Rodgers hasn’t ruled out the possibility that Kieran Tierney will have to undergo surgery on his hip injury.

The defender has been out of action for almost a month and isn’t involved in the team training sessions in Dubai.

Tierney did make the bench for the Glasgow derby on December 29 but it’s clear that his recovery isn’t going to plan.

Asked if surgery would be required Rodgers told the Daily Record: “I’m not sure. We are just monitoring it and we will see how he is.

He’s still not training but he’s out here with the rehab team so hopefully next week we’ll see if there is any reaction when he starts training.”

Tierney has been a virtual ever present in the Celtic side since the start of 2017 despite being on the receiving end of a number of brutal attacks.

Many opponents have perfected the art of arriving a split second too late to put in a challenge, colliding with Tierney just after he releases the ball.

Jonny Hayes, Callum McGregor and Emilio Izaguirre have all stood in for the 22-year-old but if surgery is required there could be a doubt over whether Tierney will play again this season.
