Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Filip Benkovic will be missing for ‘a number of weeks’.

Speaking to Radio Scotland tonight he said: “Filip will be out for a number of weeks, we just have to wait on what the definitive time will be. We’re waiting on further tests on his ankle.”

Benkovic completed the full 90 minutes on Saturday against Hamilton Accies with news of his injury surfacing late on Monday night.

Last week Brendan Rodgers dampened down expectations over signing a new central defender by suggesting that he wouldn’t be able to get better than Benkovic and Dedryck Boyata.

The former Manchester City defender has missed Celtic’s last three matches through injury forcing Kris Ajer and Jozo Simunovic back into action for tonight’s clash with St Johnstone.

Celtic have received a few offers to take Jack Hendry out on loan but with doubts over the fitness of the two first choice central defenders it’s unlikely that Rodgers will sanction a move for the former Dundee defender

CELTIC v St Johnstone: Bain; Lustig, Ajer, Boyata, Izaguirre; Brown, McGregor: Forrest, Christie, Sinclair; Burke

SUBS: Gordon, Bitton, Hayes, Johnston, Weah, Henderson, Edouard.
