Brendan Rodgers has highlighted Ewan Henderson’s progress while discovering the club’s transfer prospects.

The 18-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and has so far turned down options to sign a long term deal. Money isn’t believed to be the issue with the young midfielder concerned that his career may stall like that of his older brother Ewan.

Henderson made a brief first team appearance towards the end of last season as a substitute against Kilmarnock and was named as a substitute for Saturday’s Scottish Cup win over Airdrie United/Clydebank.

We’ve got some really talented young players here like Ewan Henderson, he’s a player that I really like,” Rodgers told today’s media conference. “He is still maturing but he is up there training regularly with the first team. He has a wonderful view of the game, there is lot of maturation left in him but I always look here to the young players within the Academy.

But a club of Celtic’s status with it’s demands you always have to be looking outside as well.”

Without first team football Henderson has just 10 Reserve League fixtures to look forward to this season.

At international level Henderson has largely been overlooked by Scotland, making one appearance in 2016 for the u-17 side followed by two appearances in friendlies against Poland for the u-19’s before being left out of the squad for the European qualifiers.
