Ten per-cent of eligible Scots households are refusing to pay the BBC tax known as the TV licence fee with sport and politics the main cause of resentment.

According to a report in The Scotsman, lifted from The Times, the figure for evasion in England and Wales is 6% but that rises to 10% in Scotland.

BBC Scotland’s Sportscene programme featuring brief highlights from the weekend matches is shown early on Sunday evening after two showings of Match of the Day featuring coverage of the EPL with a further programme shown later on Sunday.

With a full programme of top flight matches in the SPFL tonight fans will have to wait until 15 minutes past midnight to catch highlights of their team in action.

Last Wednesday prime viewing time was handed over to live coverage of Southampton v Derby County in a half empty stadium with extra time coverage forcing coverage of a statement from the Prime Minister onto BBC2.

The BBC tax costs £150 a year to put English football ahead of the Scottish game at every turn.

Irony seems lost on the state broadcasters radio coverage of the Scottish game with disguised remuneration from the old Rangers club almost essential with Steven Thompson, Kris Boyd, Alex Rae and Billy Dodds all regularly on the airwaves.
