Chris Sutton has produced a master piece in today’s Daily Record column as he calls out every aspect of the SFA as not fit for purpose including the c word- corruption.
Saturday’s Glasgow derby was horrendously refereed by John Beaton with Alfredo Morelos escaping any sort of punishment for between three and five incidents that would earn him a red card in most European countries.
‘Only in Scotland’ Sutton tweeted following the decision as a warm up to today’s blast in the Record.
The buffoonery of the beaks is off the scale and the lot of them should resign in shame.
The bungling referees, the ex-ref old boys network, the compliance officer – clearly none of them are fit for purpose.
To come away with the same conclusion is beyond belief and the SFA should have the ability to step in and deal with the situation properly if the referee is unwilling or unable to take the responsibility.
It would have been a travesty if Celtic got anything from the game last week but it’s a bigger travesty Morelos has managed to get off scot free.
Yesterday’s non-decision was leaked to favoured media outlets with no questions asked. Explaining the failure to take action on Morelos it was revealed that Beaton viewed all of the incidents and deemed that they weren’t worthy of action, not even a talking to or yellow card.
If the SFA are prepared to accept that version their only option is to banish Beaton to the lower division but that seems highly unlikely for a member of the all powerful Lanarkshire Referee’s Association who provided three of the four match officials at Ibrox.
