Kieran Tierney is facing being out of action for the rest of January with the Valencia Europa League tie on February 14 the target for his comeback.

The defender last played on December 13 at home to RB Salzburg with a troublesome hip injury ruling him out of the remainder of Celtic’s December programme although he was listed as a substitute at Ibrox.

According to The Sun:

KIERAN TIERNEY is locked in an anxious fitness fight to be ready for Celtic’s Europa League showdown with Valencia.

SunSport understands the crocked Scotland star will miss Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie against Airdrie and next week’s league game against St Mirren.

With a hip injury it seems that the only options available are complete rest or surgery- going under the knife could rule him out of action for the remainder of the season.

The Salzburg tie was Tierney’s 34th match of the season with the 21-year-old in his fourth season as Celtic’s first choice left-back.

In his absence Emilio Izaguirre, Jonny Hayes and Callum McGregor have been played at left-back with Calvin Miller’s loan deal to Dundee cut short to add an additional option.

Celtic return to action on Saturday when they face Airdrie United/Clydebank in the Scottish Cup with St Mirren visiting the hoops on Wednesday in the first SPFL match of 2019.
