Without there being any vacancy the Daily Mail has decided to link Brendan Rodgers with the manager’s job at Leicester City.
In normal circumstances it could be treated as just another flyer with the hoops boss linked with various jobs since joining Celtic in May 2016.
This story takes on a more serious nature however with the author, Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail recognised as the reporter closest to power in the Celtic boardroom.
Since the summer transfer window there has been increased speculation about the future of Rodgers who was clearly unhappy with the failure to deliver on the transfer front.
That issue appeared to be resolved at Celtic’s AGM in November but so far in this transfer window the problems in the hoops defence have still to be addressed.
Last season Rodgers spoke out against the short term approach to management by most English clubs but the prospect of moving to Leicester is bound to be of interest.
The 2016 EPL champions seem to have become an established top flight side but fans have made their unhappiness known at the style of play highlighted by recent home defeats from Newport County and Southampton.
Rodgers signed a new four year deal with Celtic in April 2017 after clinching his first league title.
