Marvin Compper made a rare appearance for Celtic on Wednesday- in an u-19 friendly against Sunderland which the the English side won 2-1.

Jack Aitchison scored the Celtic goal after Sunderland had gone two goals up.

Compper was signed from RB Leipzig a year ago in a £1m deal but his Celtic career will end with just 82 minutes of action against his name.

The 33-year-old was expected to move on during the January transfer window but with no club prepared to compete with the 18 months left on his contract he remains on the Celtic pay roll.

With reserve matches something of a rarity the young hoops visited the Sunderland Training Complex (Academy of Light) for a closed doors friendly against what was effectively Celtic’s u-19 side with one obvious exception!

The German played alongside Stephen Welsh in the centre of the Celtic defence with Wallace Duffy and Daniel Church the other teenage defenders.

Karamoko Dembele was in the Celtic side and eligible for his Reserve League debut once he turns 16 on the 23rd of this month.

On Monday Celtic face Falkirk in the Reserve League at Cappielow, kick off 2pm.
