Fourth official Kevin Clancy looked very distressed as Celtic closed in on full points at St Johnstone.

With a few minutes left to play and Celtic leading 1-0 the Sky Sports cameras switched to the touchline where Clancy was in charge of substitutions and time keeping.

Clancy’s last Celtic match was away to Motherwell in December when a perfectly good goal from Filip Benkovic was disallowed for no apparent reason. Motherwell equalised late on to deny Celtic full points.

Referee Willie Collum set the tone for today’s match with an early penalty call waved away. As Oliver Burke prepared to shoot Jason Kerr came lunging in from behind sweeping away the ball, player and everything else.

Yesterday at Ibrox Andrew Dallas was handing out penalties as if they were going out of fashion.

Fellow Lanarkshire referee Collum was having none of it, not even when Ryan Christie was taken out six yards from goal in the incident that saw Odsonne Edouard stretchered off.

On Wednesday Craig Thomson will referee the Celtic v Hibs clash while Bobby Madden will be in charge of the clash at Pittodrie.
