Filip Benkovic is hoping to be back in action sometime next month.

The defender is on loan from Leicester City until the end of the season but has been out of action since picking up an injury against Hamilton on January 26.

Benkovic arrived at Celtic at the end of the summer transfer window and instantly made a big impression forming a formidable barrier in central defence with Dedryck Boyata.

Initial reports on the injury claimed that the defender would be out of action for the rest of the season but the 21-year-old is confident of a speedy return as Celtic chase honours.

That’s me, a magnet for trouble,” The Sun reported. “Before the injury, everything was super, I was just too happy.

“Regardless of the injury that, I hope, will not keep me out from the field for too long, I enjoy everything.

“The matches up here play at a constant speed, every two of three days. Of course, I believe that I will continue to progress and that my performance will be even better.”

Kris Ajer and Jozo Simunovic have stood in for Benkovic with Brendan Rodgers having to pick between those two options for tonight’s Europa League tie with Valencia.

Benkovic and Boyata played together in Celtic’s three group stage victories but unfortunately are almost certain to be playing elsewhere next season with Boyata out of contract and Benkovic returning to Leicester.
