John Hartson has claimed that Scott Brown is up among the greatest legends in Celtic’s history.

The hoops skipper has become an iconic figure with his famous Ibrox goal celebration in 2011 still cherished and re-created by supporters.

Along the way Brown has picked up eight championship medals in an era when few players get around to signing as second contract to stay on at the club.

Hartson played with some great figures in Celtic’s history when he starred under Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan but after being written off by some fans earlier this season Brown has come storming back since the turn of the year.

Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Ryan Christie and even Timo Weah have had their moments as Celtic stormed eight points clear of the pack but as he demonstrated at Ruby Park no one quite has the impact on Celtic as their never-say-die skipper.

In the Evening Times Hartson explained:

You talk about Henrik Larsson and Jimmy Johnstone, Paul McStay, Jimmy McGrory, the Lisbon Lions and Billy McNeill, but for me Scott Brown has joined the list of legends at Celtic Park.

When you look at what he has offered over the last decade or so in terms of leadership and drive and in terms of his medal haul, he has got to be up there. And I thought he dragged the team to that win at Kilmarnock yesterday Let’s not forget that three months ago, there were people who had retired him.

And I can see why he went mental when he scored that goal at Rugby Park yesterday – I would have reacted exactly the same.

Last month Brown signed a new two year contract to stay on at Celtic despite interest in him from Australia, the United States and UAE.
