Andrew Gutman’s loan transfer to Nashville SC has been refused by the MLS leaving the defender in limbo.

Gutman spent time training with the Celtic reserve squad in January and played in friendlies against St Mirren and Arbroath but failed to return to Lennoxtown after the 4-3 defeat at the League One leaders.

It looked like the transfer had fallen through until late on January 31 Celtic announced that a deal had been completed with the 22-year-old going back to the USA to continue his career.

Last year Gutman was playing for Indiana University and turned down the offer of a contract with MLS outfit Chicago Fire.

With the MLS turning down a loan move it seems that Celtic will now have to find an alternative club for Gutman to go out on loan to outwith the transfer window.

Celtic signed fellow American Manny Perez at the same time as Gutman, it remains to be seen if his loan move to North Carolina FC goes ahead.

Nashville SC and North Carlina play in USL Championship which is expected to start a promotion and relegation system with the MSL which contains the top clubs such as LA Galaxy.
