Jerry Toljan has revealed that a ‘Sporting Director’ played a part in his Celtic negotiations.
The defender joined Celtic on loan from Borussia Dortmund with less than two hours left in the transfer window and is expected to be in the right-back berth by the time Celtic face Valencia in the Europa League.
Celtic’s recruitment has been heavily criticised for it’s failings in 2018 with mixed reactions to how the January 2019 window has worked out with the emphasis switched to short term loans.
Toljan gave his first interview to Celtic TV, delivered in perfect English with Gerry McCulloch calling him Jerry rather than his Sunday version, Jeremy.
I had other options but the conversation with the manager and the Sporting Director were positive. I didn’t have to think about it very long, I had a good feeling, Celtic is a big club, I’m happy to be here and looking forward to playing.
The new bhoy has played in a few bounce matches during Dortmund’s winter break with Celtic set to assess his fitness.
On Wednesday Celtic’s reserve side have a friendly against Sunderland which is likely to give Toljan an opportunity to prove that he is ready for first team action.
