Oliver Burke is the most expensive Scotland internationalist of all time but he is still looking to pick up his first senior medal.
A total of £25m has been spent taking him from Nottingham Forest to RB Salzburg then on to West Bromwich Albion.
Along the way Burke’s career has stalled, the Scotland call-ups have been for the u-21 side with fans wondering what has gone wrong for the kid with the blistering pace that was tipped to reach the very top.
In January Celtic offered him an escape from the sidelines at the Hawthorns, converted into a striker he has played a big part in the run being enjoyed by Brendan Rodgers’ side as they break free at the top of the SPFL and advance in the Scottish Cup.
A Scotland recall is expected with Burke delighted by the way that 2019 is developing.
“Definitely, it would be a dream for me,” he told the Daily Record. “We focus on the league now and it is foot on the gas. We won’t stop now and it’s an amazing position for me.
“We are doing very well at the moment in domestic football but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves.
‘We have our feet firmly on the ground and just focus on each game as it comes. As long as we do that, we know we can beat anybody. A chance to win things was in my thoughts when I came here but it was also down to the manager.
“He persuaded me a lot to come here. Also I knew some of the boys already so I feel very happy at Celtic. It is a fantastic club with fantastic fans and staff so I am really enjoying myself.”
Burke added: “I’ve been starved of football in the recent past so getting back into the Scotland set-up wasn’t possible. Now I’ve had a run of games it is a case of fingers crossed. Let’s just see what happens.
“It is definitely something I have got my eye on. It is a dream come true to represent your country. As I say, we’ll see what happens. I have to keep performing well and producing to earn any call-up. I’m happy now and enjoying my football and want to kick on.”
