Brendan Rodgers has spoken out about the witch hunt against Jozo Simunovic.

It seems that a challenge from the defender on Oli Shaw of Hibs has been pushed towards the SFA Compliance Officer to consider for a retrospective punishment.

Nothing was said in the aftermath of the match, no one from Hibs raised the issue but as social media focused on Allan McGregor’s brutal attack on Lewis Morgan another ‘Old Firm’ angle was required for the story.

The Daily Record and BBC Scotland were first to focus attention on the Simunovic challenge with word awaited from the SFA in the form of a formal charge or a second hand explanation issued to their favoured media partners.

Asked about a possible ban for his defender, Rodgers told the BBC:

“It was a strong challenge, an aggressive challenge but I think defenders will tell you when you jump in with a young striker – especially the young boy from Hibs, who is a very good one – you have got to be strong and committed in the challenge. I think it was that.

“There is a thirst nowadays to over-analyse absolutely everything. But sometimes you have got to think it’s a good challenge that doesn’t need analysis and you get on with the game. But I understand everything gets analysed now. But I have no concern.”

Simunovic has played in Celtic’s last three matches following the ankle injury to Filip Benkovic.

With Kris Ajer back from suspension and Dedryck Boyata returned to full fitness Rodgers has options in central defence if Simunovic is suspended.
