After claiming in a statement that the players at Celtic will be ‘friends for life’ Brendan Rodgers told the Leicester players that the only reason that he dumped Celtic was to work with THEM!
The double speak of the Irishman has been cruelly exposed over the last few days as a whirlwind deal with Leicester was completed less than 60 hours after Claude Puel had been sacked.
Talks with Leicester were completed rapidly with Rodgers installed in time to watch last night’s 2-1 home win over Brighton from the Directors Box.
Mike Stowell was in temporary charge of Leicester for the match and revealed what Rodgers said in the dressing room after the win.
“The lads were pleased to see him and he told them the only reason he’d left Celtic was to work with them,” Stowell told The Sun.
“That speaks volumes for this young group of players. He’s going to bring something special to the club.
“He’s just spoken to the lads and they were in awe of him. I can retire now!”
Rodgers took Leicester training for the first time this morning ahead of Sunday’s match at Watford, the first club that he managed. After just 32 matches in charge he resigned to take over at Reading where he was sacked after 23 matches that brought just six victories.
