A major hole in Brendan Rodgers’ fading credibility has been exposed by a report in The Times.

If the Irishman had left Celtic in the summer for Leicester, hoops fans may have questioned the destination but respected the timing of his move.

The combination of Leicester and February has irked the Celtic support with Rodgers seemingly leaving in haste for what no one could ever describe as a dream job.

Timing is everything with some suggestions that Rodgers was given an ultimatum to move to Leicester or lose the opportunity.

Writing in The Times that prospect has been dismissed by Steve Madeley:

Leicester’s Thai owners did not balk at a £6 million compensation package for Celtic and had been willing to wait until the summer for the Northern Irish manager. However, Rodgers, 46, was willing to move back to England immediately and take over at a club that are 11th in the table after a poor run under Claude Puel.

Speaking last night to Leicester’s website Rodgers claimed that he was in no hurry to leave Celtic which completely contradicts the report in The Times.

After signing a 12 month rolling contract when he moved to Celtic in May 2016 Rodgers signed a new four year deal in May 2017 just ahead of completing the Invincible Treble.

Now, despite seven successive trophy successes, the man who claimed to be living the dream at Celtic finds his reputation trashed with the timing of the move unforgivable for many fans.
