Youssouf Mulumbu picked up the Man-of-the-Match award as Kilmarnock were held to a 0-0 Scottish Cup draw by the club from Ibrox.
The midfielder moved to Rugby Park on the closing day of the transfer window and enjoyed a half hour appearance in the 2-2 draw away to Dundee in midweek.
That display convinced Steve Clarke to put him in from the start of today’s cup tie with Mulumbu thriving in the midfield battle as he enjoyed his first full 90 minutes of the season.
On the half hour mark he came close to scoring but his close range shot was thwarted by a goal-line clearance from Andy Halliday.
With Celtic down at Rugby Park next Sunday Mulumbu will have to sit that match out which should ensure that he is fresh for next Wednesday’s replay at Ibrox.
One Celt already through to the last eight of the Scottish Cup is Conor Hazard who kept a clean sheet at New Bayview as Partick Thistle beat East Fide 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Steven Anderson.
