VIEWPOINT

Within the course of less than 24 hours Celtic have again been stitched up as the bad guys of Scottish football- taking the focus away from the chronic refereeing issues in the game.

Following a run of the mill meeting on Monday between the SFA and top flight clubs someone decided to float the idea of foreign referees coming in to the Scottish game.

Pinning the initiative on Celtic served a purpose with the Daily Record breaking the story on Wednesday morning.

Throughout the day the expected media sources have been pouring out their scorn on social media, explaining how the idea was a non starter with their favourite sinister theories thrown in for good measure.

Celtic have sat silent on the sidelines, tellingly the SFA have also said nothing although Alex McLeish was lined up for a media conference today when the foreign referee issue was the burning issue.

Tonight Sky Sports are reporting that foreign referees is a non-starter. Mission accomplished, the story is blown out the water with the mid sticking on Celtic as the instigators of undermining referees.

All the while Ian Maxwell and John Fleming refuse to reveal any details of John Beaton’s view of incidents at Ibrox on December 29 and crucially why the Compliance Officer decided not to take retrospective action.

Again Celtic will take the blame with no one inside the club or at the SFA offering an alternative to the way that the story has been shaped.
