Steven Gerrard is ‘very surprised’ by Steve Clarke’s call for consistency from Scottish referees.

Earlier this season Killie forward Jordan Jones was hit with a two match suspension for simulation following a win over Dundee at Dens Park.

On Saturday at Ibrox Jermain Defoe dived to earn Gerrard’s side the second of four penalties with Clarke calling on the SFA Compliance Officer to deal with the on-loan Bournemouth striker in the same way.

In his first domestic match in management Gerrard claimed that decisions had been going against his employers for years but took exception to the views expressed by his former Liverpool assistant manager on the subject of referees.

Bobby Madden will referee tomorrow’s match at Aberdeen with his close friend, David Roome, also from East Kilbride one of his assistants.

This morning the SFA announced that Alan Muir will referee Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie between Kilmarnock and the club from Ibrox, Andrew Dallas will be fourth official at Sunday’s match between Aberdeen and Queen of the South.
