SFA move the goalposts with Johnson suspension as Celtic wait for answers over Beaton and Morelos

The SFA have contradicted their own standards by citing Darnell Johnson of Hibs and offering him a two match ban for his brutal attack on Emilio Izaguirre.

Match referee Craig Thomson witnessed the incident and decided, somewhat reluctantly, to issue a yellow card.

Today, via the Compliance Officer, the SFA have over ruled Thomson which flies in the face of the excuses given for not applying retrospective punishment against Alfredo Morelos for his actions during the December 29 Glasgow Derby.

Through their selected media partners (BBC Scotland, STV, Sky Sports and the Press Association, PA) I it was reported that no action would be taken because the three highlighted incidents had been witnessed and recorded in the report of match referee John Beaton.

Celtic requested that Beaton’s reasoning on attacks on Scott Brown, Ryan Christie and Tony Ralston be published but SFA chief Ian Maxwell has laughed off that request.

Now that the SFA have went over the judgement of Thomson on Johnson they have even more to explain to Celtic should they ever be pushed on the issue.

In a separate issue Allan McGregor has also been offered a two match suspension for kicking out at Lewis Ferguson during Wednesday’s match at Pittodrie.
