For reasons best known to SFA Refereeing chief John Fleming Bobby Madden continues to be given high profile SPFL matches.

At the end of September the Lanarkshire based referee took no action when Scott McKenna committed a waist high challenge on Odsonne Edouard during Aberdeen’s 1-0 defeat to Celtic. A few days later the SFA handed out a two match retrospective suspension.

Last night Madden made the long trek from his home in East Kilbride to Aberdeen to take charge of the live televised match between Aberdeen and the club from Ibrox.

With both teams down to 10 men and the visitors leading 3-2 there was the key incident in the game.

As Lewis Ferguson raced in on goal Allan McGregor made sure that the midfielder wasn’t going to cause any threat by racing towards the ball with the added insurance of using a straight leg to sink his studs into Ferguson’s shin. Madden had a perfect view.

It seemed a certain penalty and a red card for the keeper but for reasons best known to himself Madden took no action.

On Saturday Madden will referee the Hibs v Raith Rovers clash, both managers know what to expect from the match referee.

How long will the SFA, which is made up of all of the clubs, allow Madden to put the health of players at risk?
