Scotland’s u-19 side had an afternoon to forget as they crashed out of the European Championships with a 4-0 defeat to Portugal.

Wins over Turkey and Cyprus had set up a winners take all in the final group match but Ibrox starlet Lewis Mayo put through his own net in the 16th minute to hand the hosts the initiative.

Five minutes later Portugal went 2-0 in front as the roof fell in on the young Scots with Celtic’s Robbie Deas picking up his second yellow card in the 53rd minute, sixty seconds later Ibrox starlet Stephen Kelly was given a straight red card.

Playing for the last half hour with nine men Scotland lost goals in the 72nd and 75th minutes to bring their interest in the competition to an end.

Ryan Mullen, Daniel Church and Ewan Henderson all started the match with Kerr McInroy appearing as a second half substitute.
