Davie Hay has fired the first warning shot ahead of next Sunday’s Glasgow derby.

The Celtic ambassador can draw on derby experiences going back to the sixties when Jock Stein took the hoops to a position of dominance that eventually led to devastating consequences.

Celtic’s December defeat at Ibrox is still raw in the memory with Alfredo Morelos stamping his name all over that 1-0 reverse.

Neither John Beaton or the SFA decided to take action on three attacks on Ryan Christie, Tony Ralston and Scott Brown but a week on Sunday the Colombian will square up to the same opposition.

Christie and Ralston aren’t likely to be in the Celtic side but their team-mates will be well briefed on what to expect from Morelos and the buttons needed to ignite his temper.

In the Evening Times Hay explains:

There is an old saying that you never tell anyone what you are going to do but personally speaking, with Alfredo Morelos free to play against Celtic next weekend, I would say only that the the Parkhead players will be aware of both his strengths and his weaknesses.

That would be the diplomatic way of putting it. I actually think that there is a very good player in there.

It will be up to the boy himself as he goes through his career to learn to control his temperament better but from Celtic’s point of view, he is one that they do need to keep an eye on.

He hasn’t scored against Celtic but he is a threat. He is a goalscorer and his record would show that this season but the players will know themselves that there are ways to get under his skin.

Morelos has picked up 17 yellow and four red cards this season.
