Maryan Shved has been struck down by Celtic’s injury jinx.

Last week Neil Lennon counted up 11 players getting treatment with only Callum McGregor likely to be in contention for a place against Dundee on Sunday.

Ryan Christie, Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham complete the list of missing midfielders while the season is already a right-off for Eboue Kouassi and Daniel Arzani.

Shved joined Celtic at the end of January but was immediately sent back to Karpaty Lviv on loan where he was expected to remain until joining Celtic for pre-season training.

Revealing a new injury Karpaty manager, Fabri Gonzalez told The Sun: “Maryan suffered a bad injury when he tore an abductor muscle in his thigh.

“He is one of our best players and his absence certainly made it far harder for us against Shakhtar. He will have tests and at this stage we don’t yet know the extent of his injury.”

Karpaty lost 5-0 to Shakhtar at the weekend, a defeat that leaves them in ninth place in the 12 team Ukrainian Premier League.

Shved joined Seville as a teenager but returned to Karpaty after suffering a ruptured cruciate ligament injury.

Celtic’s medical team will assess the injury damage with their counterparts at Karpaty before deciding the best course of action for the players recuperation.
