The 22nd General Assembly of the ECA, European Club Association, gets underway in Amsterdam today.

Edwin van der Sar of Ajax has produced a video to welcome the delegates with far reaching changes to be discussed in relation to UEFA competition.

With Ajax in the last eight of this season’s the delegates have been given a timely reminder that there is life outside the so-called four big leagues which are now allocated half of the group places in the Champions League.

FIFA and UEFA will both address the meeting with FIFA announcing plans to start a 16 team World Club Championship which will rely heavily on European participation.

Celtic and other clubs outwith the big leagues seem content to retain the Champions Route but with more and more of the prize money going to the top clubs it seems that the gap is only going to widen.

If Celtic win this season’s SPFL they will have four rounds of qualifiers to get through starting on July 9/10, Celtic will almost certainly be seeded in each round.
