Ryan Christie has admitted that he is still a couple of weeks away from taking part in training.

The midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during the 4-1 win over Motherwell on February 24 and has still to play under Neil Lennon.

Christie’s emergence in the autumn co-incised with Celtic’s best form of the season with the 24-year-old scoring the only goal of the game when the hoops won the Betfred Cup by beating Aberdeen.

With Tom Rogic also sidelined through injury there has been a lack of goals and energy from the Celtic midfield but it seems like the Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen on April 14 is the target for his return.

Obviously it’s always frustrating getting injured,” he told Celtic TV. “When you finally overcome the first part and manage to get yourself back out and start running again, it’s always nice.

“Hopefully I can start trying to get back into a rhythm again and hopefully join training in the next couple of weeks and then really kick on.”

Christie had started 25 matches before getting injured, scoring 10 goals as well as playing a key role in turning round the Betfred Cup semi-final against Hearts at Tynecastle.

As well as making the breakthrough at club level he broke into the Scotland side, playing a key role in the November wins over Albania and Israel.
