Stan Collymore has made a £100 donation towards the An Gorta Mor memorial fund in Glasgow.

On Saturday a bucket collection took place before the Celtic v Aberdeen match to raise funds towards the £80,000 target.

Collymore is very active on social media and picked up on the appeal on Saturday morning with the former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest striker never slow to show his support of Celtic.

The memorial fund will provide a permanent symbol of the influence that Irish immigration in the 19th century had on Glasgow and the west of Scotland although many would suggest that the formation and success of Celtic is a living and breathing memorial.

This weekend St Patrick’s Day will be celebrated with marches and parades worldwide, in Scotland the most visible will be in Coatbridge where a number of events will be staged to celebrate the influence of Irish immigrants on the Lanarkshire town.
