Filip Benkovic is on his way back to action after more than a month out injured.

The defender suffered a leg knock during the January 26 win over Hamilton Accies with initial reports suggesting that he could be out of action for the remainder of the season.

Brendan Rodgers expected Benkovic to be back at some stage in March with today’s news and pictures from the Daily Record suggesting that he is in line with that timetable.

The on loan defender only took part in light training but it is the first report of the 21-year-old working outdoors after starting his rehab in the gym.

Kris Ajer has come into the Celtic side to replace Benkovic and turned in an outstanding performance in the Europa League tie away to Valencia.

The young Norwegian is expected to be paired with Dedryck Boyata for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie away to Hibs with Celtic without three key midfielders.

Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic are all likely to be out for a couple of weeks which gives Nir Bitton and Ewan Henderson more opportunities to continue their run of first team action.
