Mystery over the Benkovic injury story

The source of today’s good new surrounding Filip Benkovic appears to be a bit of a mystery.

At 9.48 this morning Football Scotland, a website related to the Daily Record reported quotes from the Croatian media that the defender had ‘almost put his injury behind him’.

There was no link in the report with a google search failing to uncover the Croatian source of the story.

With Football Scotland breaking the story a number of other sites were happy to run with the story even though there was no by-line.

Tomorrow at his pre-Dundee media conference Neil Lennon will be able to provide an accurate update on the fitness of the defender.

Benkovic hasn’t played since January 26 which would make it quite a risk to pitch him into a Glasgow derby after two months out injured. If Kris Ajer or Dedryck Boyata were to pick up an injury there could be a case for playing Benkovic but hopefully both players get through the international break unscathed.

Tom Rogic and Olivier Ntcham are also apparently targeting the derby fixture for their return to action but with a minute of club football in 2019 it would be too much of a risk to use any of those players.

Callum McGregor could be involved against Dundee on Sunday, if he makes and features for Scotland against San Marino he should be 100% for the derby clash but it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be lining up alongside Benkovic, Rogic or Ntcham.
