Lee Congerton is set to leave Celtic according to a report in The Sun.

The Welshman was appointed Head of Recruitment in March 2017 but has attracted widespread criticism from fans after three disappointing transfer windows.

Odsonne Edouard and Olivier Ntcham have been the main successes since Congerton arrived but it’s unclear exactly how influential he was in securing those deals.

The Sun reports:

LEE CONGERTON is poised to leave Celtic in the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ departure to Leicester City.

The Hoops’ head of recruitment looks certain to quit with interest in him from the Bundesliga, Belgium and the MLS.

Congerton was largely viewed as a Rodgers appointment with the former hoops boss launching a strong defence of his Head of Recruitment in January with the two men first making contact more than a decade ago at Chelsea.

After leaving the London club Congerton had spells in scouting at Hamburg and Sunderland but neither were viewed as successful by fans of those clubs with some Sunderland fans amazed when he got the Celtic job.

Whoever takes his place at Celtic has a major job on their hands with Filip Benkovic, Dedryck Boyata, Mikael Lustig, Jeremy Toljan, Oliver Burke and Timo Weah all due to depart at the end of this season- with the threat that Rodgers could return once the transfer window opens.
