Brendan Rodgers regrets not getting the chance to say good-bye to many of his ‘friends for life’.

On Monday night he took the decision to quit Celtic, heading south for Leicester after what had appeared to be a normal day of training at Lennoxtown.

Overnight it emerged that it was more than speculation linking Rodgers to the 2016 EPL winners with John Kennedy left to take training on Tuesday and break the news to the Celtic players.

By late afternoon the Irishman was pictured inside the King Power Stadium as the Celtic supporters realised that they had fallen for almost three years of sweet talking spin.

The exit on Rodgers had been anticipated, even to a club like Leicester but the haste of the move on the eve of two important domestic matches with most of his back-room staff make it’s mark across the hoops support.

Rodgers seems taken aback by the reaction to his decision with Celtic still on his mind after Leicester lost 2-1 away to Watford today.

There was obviously a lot of noise around but I don’t tend to suffer so much with that,” he explained to The Sun. ““With experience, I’ve tried not to listen so much to what goes on.

“I knew the Celtic fans were hurting which is why I’ll never be critical of them. I understand how they’re feeling but they had a good result on Saturday. They are into the Scottish Cup semi-final and we’ll both move on.”

He added: “It was sad to leave Celtic and the quickness of it meant I didn’t have the chance to say goodbye to lots of people who meant a lot to me and friends outside of the game but from that point I’ve only been focused on the football.”

Rodgers takes charge of Leicester at home to Fulham on Saturday followed by matches against Burnley, Bournemouth and Huddersfield.
