Despite the recent upsurge in anti-social behaviour inside football grounds just three SPFL clubs are in favour of strict liability.

That measure would hold clubs responsible for the actions of their own supporters with a sliding scale of punishments ranging to the deduction of points.

During a Scottish Cup tie against Hibs at the start of this month a bottle narrowly missed Scott Sinclair as he prepared to take a corner. Later at the same location coins were aimed at the player.

After James Tavernier was confronted by a Hibs fan during the match Easter Road chief Leeann Dempster threatened to close a stand if fans continued to misbehave.

However, today BBC Scotland report:

However, in a poll of Scotland’s 42 senior clubs, only Championship sides Partick Thistle and Queen of the South, and Annan Athletic in League Two, said they would back such a move.

A total of 14 clubs said they were against strict liability, 17 were not willing to comment, and eight did not respond.

At the moment no action is taken against clubs if it can be shown that they took action to prevent trouble occurring.

During a visit to Ibrox in April 2017 Scott Brown was attacked by a home supporter on the pitch, Sinclair was the subject of racist abuse with missiles including a battery thrown at Celtic players. No comment was made or action taken by the SPFL.
