The SPFL have issued a three line statement in response to the rise in crowd trouble.
Pitch invasions have been seen this season at St Mirren, Livingston and Kilmarnock with a bottle narrowly missing Scott Sinclair during Celtic’s visit to Hibs in the Scottish Cup. After that incident Hibs chief executive Leeann Dempster admitted that her club’s CCTV had failed to pick up on the incident in a section that was just over half full.
Tonight the Daily Record reports:
An SPFL statement said: “The recent incidents of unacceptable conduct were discussed by members of the SPFL board at its meeting at Hampden today.
“There was a strong consensus in condemning such behaviour and the individuals who commit criminal acts at football grounds.
“The SPFL will continue to engage with key stakeholders to help tackle all criminality occurring at SPFL stadia.”
The SPFL seem to have a policy of washing their hands of incidents involving disorder which set in after Celtic’s 5-1 win at Ibrox in April 2017.
During that match Scott Sinclair was subjected to racist abuse, a fan entered the field of play to confront Scott Brown while various missiles including batteries were thrown at Celtic players.
No action was taken following that match with no statement made or acknowledgement that Celtic players had been put at risk.
