Perhaps it was the loaded question coming from the BBC but Jim McIntyre didn’t do himself any favours after yesterday’s defeat from Celtic.

Six minutes of stoppage time were added during which the Dundee boss managed to make a substitution with Scott Wright leaving the pitch in slow motion.

Of more concern for McIntyre was the way his side used the added time, they were twice in decent attacking positions but never tested Scott Bain or headed for the corner flag to continue killing time.

The stoppage time applied equally to both clubs, in the example above Kenny Miller could have earned Dundee two extra points if he had scored a penalty.

Forgetting a match played earlier this year McIntyre told BBC Scotland: “We never seem to get six minutes added on when we are looking for it. I found it strange to say the least. It was a real surprise.

“I asked the fourth official, John Beaton, and he explain the referee felt there were three head knocks as well as the substitutes.

“I don’t want to make too much of that. In the last two minutes we had a great opportunity and we have to do better. Celtic break from that and score.”

In football players are told to play the whistle, don’t stop for a flag or anticipating a whistle. The game lasts until the final blow of the referee’s whistle, if Dundee had shown the discipline that they had shown for 90 minutes through the stoppage time McIntyre wouldn’t be getting the sympathy vote from the BBC who are far more interested in the gap at the top than the battle at the bottom of the SPFL.
