Mark Hill has joined Charlotte Independence on loan.

The midfielder played 14 matches on loan with Forfar Athletic earlier in the season and has now linked up with former Celtic coach Jim McGuinness in the second tier of football in the USA.

I’m very excited about being in Charlotte,” Hill told his new club’s website. “I know Jim [McGuinness] demands his players be hard-working and it was the exact same way at Celtic when I played under him there. Hopefully, I can do that here and go back to get a chance with Celtic.”

Hill signed a three year contract with Celtic in 2017 but looks highly unlikely to make a first team breakthrough with Ewan Henderson and Kerr McInroy both featuring in first team squads.

With Andrew Gutman also on loan at Charlotte it looks like Celtic could be setting up a genuine nursery.

McGuinnes switched from GAA to start working with the Celtic development squad in 2012 before moving to Chinese side Beijing Sinobo Guoan F.C. In 2017.

Charlotte started their season on Friday night with a 3-2 home defeat against Indy Eleven with Gutman scoring one of their goals.

As well as Hill and Gutman Celtic currently have Jack Aitchison (Alloa), Ross Doohan (Ayr United), Calvin Miller (Ayr United), Youssouf Mulumbu (Kilmarnock), Connor Hazard (Partick Thistle), Kundai Benyu (Helsingborgs) and Lewis Morgan (Sunderland) out on loan.
