After a two day lull following the Scottish Cup win over Aberdeen the guessing and speculating game over who will manage Celtic next season is back under way with David Wagner in the spotlight.

According to a report in Examiner Live the former Huddersfield boss is a contender as he looks to get back into football after stepping down in January as the Yorkshire side hurtled towards relegation which was confirmed in March.

Wagner certainly made an impact at Huddersfield, leading them to the top flight, surviving but their second season in the top flight proved to be disastrous.

His next employer will discover if he is the real deal or just cashed in on beneficial circumstances boosted by his links to Jurgen Klopp.

Former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is being tipped to take charge at Celtic next season.

According to a report in the Sunday People, the German former head coach at the John Smith’s Stadium is being spoken of highly at Parkhead.

Wagner, 47, left Town in January , stating he needed a break from the rigours of management.

He has since, in an interview with The Times, indicated he is feeling ready to return and believes he’s ready to resume at top level.

Celtic want to build on what looks like eight successive titles with better form in Europe, and it’s reported Wagner’s tactical nous and knowledge of continental football could be a bit of a coup.

Wagner also has that passion for the game that Celtic fans demand, and the bond he built with Town’s fans has also caught the imagination north of the border.

Wagner, who is 47 has also been linked with a number of English based jobs including West Brom.

Despite speculation linking half a dozen names with the Celtic manager’s job Neil Lennon remains the strong favourite to take over on a permanent basis.
