Frank McAvennie full subscribes to the view that only Celtic can stop themselves from hoovering up even more trophies.

When Hibs lifted the 2016 Scottish Cup it was the last time that a trophy went elsewhere with the hoops heavy odds on to pick up their eighth and ninth successive trophies between now and the end of the season.

Much of the initial success of the current run was down to the contributions of Brendan Rodgers and Moussa Dembele but despite both moving on this season and a glut of injuries Celtic have retained their winning touch.

Four defeats in the first half of the season suggested that Celtic were vulnerable but despite the sudden loss of Rodgers the hoops have surged ahead in the race for the title while booking a place in the Scottish Cup Final by seeing off Hibs and Aberdeen.

McAvennie was a key figure in the Centenary Double winning side but has no doubt that the current team are going to take that a step further.

The treble Treble now looks like a forgone conclusion,” he told The Sun. “They should beat Hearts in the Scottish Cup final and I can’t see them being stopped any time in the future.

A quadruple Treble would be great but we all know what the fans want — ten in a row.

That will be unique in Scotland and the fans will want Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond to give the new manager the funds to get there.

Celtic can’t keep on winning Trebles but the idea of going through a season without a trophy in the near future is unthinkable. The only reason the likes of Rangers or Aberdeen have even got close in games is when Celtic haven’t played well.

It’s really down to them. If Celtic turn up they won’t be beaten. Yes, Rangers played well against ten men in the last Old Firm game but Celtic got the result.”

Sunday’s win at Hampden over Aberdeen was their 26th successive cup tie win.
