Callum McGregor is looking to kill off the flickering hopes of a title challenge.

After winning the Glasgow derby at the end of March Celtic opened up a 13 point gap at the top of the SPFL table but back to back goal-less draws have reduced that lead down to nine points.

McGregor is neck and neck with James Forrest for the Player of the Year awards and knows how to play through the pressure points.

Two seasons ago the pressure was on to complete the SPFL campaign unbeaten while last season it wasn’t until the fourth last fixture that the title was secured.

A home win against Kilmarnock on Saturday could be enough to secure a weekend celebration with McGregor fully focussed on wrapping the title up as quickly as possible.

Staying calm is something that we’ve always tried to stick with in this group, probably since Brendan Rodgers came in,” the midfielder told The Sun.

There was that real calmness. Games are going to be frantic, but we just stay calm, and we’ve been in these moments a lot.

You just learn by experience to keep calm, and now the manager has come in and has kept that same message. It’s just about experience in these big moments.

It’s amazing the character of these boys to just keep churning out results, and in big games too. It’s not easy to keep doing it time and time again. It shows how good these players are and their mentality and hunger.

It helps that we’ve been in that position so many times now in the last few years. You become experienced in those moments when the game is on a knife-edge.

We manage to keep our cool and the other team will maybe get a player sent off, then they have to change their game-plan and we come alive.”

Kilmarnock face Celtic on Saturday and could be without FOUR players from the side that lost to Aberdeen last weekend.

Stewart Findlay is definitely suspended, appeals are in against the red cards given to Kirk Broadfoot and Rory MacKenzie with loan Celt Youssouf Malumba unavailable against his parent club.
