Dave King will be served with the biggest bill of the season when Sports Direct take the Ibrox company to the High Court this week.

Selling merchandise through a third party and opening a store in Glasgow city centre might have given the bears a feel good factor but now comes the feel good pay back.

After paying £3m to set up a new retail and distribution deal last summer the Ibrox club were back in court in July 2018 after trying to rush out a kit launch that Sports Direct felt was a clear break in their new contract. The law agreed with Sports Direct.

With a new bloated wage bill to match the new kits started to go on sale online with Sports Direct missing out on the chance to get the kit out to market through their network of stores and online platforms.

Ahead of the critical Christmas season the St Enoch’s store appeared with Sports Direct again missing out.

Rather than apply for an injunction SDI allowed the money to roll in and are now looking for their cut, their losses and legal costs.

Ahead of Thursday’s court appearance Phil MacGiollabhain reports:

The fact that Big Mike has lodged a claim for £9.78m will not cause any angst whatsoever at Ibrox. Especially, as they have an owner in Mr David Cunningham King who has vast personal wealth and loves the club deeply.

Steven Gerrard has recently been making some hints at his transfer requirements for next season but it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to repeat last summer’s spending spree.

Despite reaching the group phase of the Europa League another loan was required by Close Brothers to see the club through until season ticket renewal time.

With the release of some upbeat transfer speculation it is anticipated that a big push will soon be on to sell season tickets but much of that money could be heading to Mike Ashley rather than Gerrard’s transfer war-chest.
