Davie Hay has provided a positive update on Leigh Griffiths.

The striker took time out of football in mid-December but has now completed three weeks of double training sessions at Lennoxtown.

Neil Lennon left the door open to Griffiths making a first team appearance before the end of the season but being ready to kick on for European qualifiers in July seems to be the main target.

In the Evening Times Hay revealed:

IT’S great to see Leigh Griffiths back in and around Lennoxtown training with Celtic again, first and foremost for the boy himself.

He has had his time out to deal with his issues, the club have supported him brilliantly, and hopefully that is all behind him now.

There is no rush for him to come back into first-team action you don’t feel, not with Odsonne Edouard, Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah all around the squad, but if you can get a fit Leigh Griffiths with his mind right into the reckoning too, then he would be an asset for anyone.

Celtic have three Reserve League matches left to play this season which could give Griffiths a low key return to action for the first time since December.

The return of Neil Lennon as manager seems to have given the former Hibs striker a boost with the Irishman signing Griffiths from Wolves in 2014 and having personal experience of depression.

Earlier this season Griffiths became the first Celtic striker since John Hartson to score 100 competitive goals for the hoops.
